Date: Sunday 20th October 2019
Time: 6pm to 7.15pm
Venue: The Assembly House

Into Opera return to the Assembly House Norwich with a new Opera Unwrapped concert which puts Women Centre Stage. The artistic director of Into Opera, Norfolk born Genevieve Raghu, will host this event and welcome to the stage the widely acclaimed soprano and co-founder of SWAP’ra (Supporting Women and Parents in Opera) Anna Patalong, Northern Irish mezzo-soprano Carolyn Dobbin and the pianist and artistic director of New Paths Music Festival, Libby Burgess.

These women will join forces to explore the way in which women have been portrayed in opera over time by composers, stage directors, costume designers and, of course, by the singers themselves. Which characters are controversial? Which characters are inspirational? Can we relate to any of the women depicted in opera today? An evening of music, laughter and heated debates, Women Centre Stage promises to offer audiences a thought-provoking night of opera.

This concert will include some of opera’s most powerful and poignant music, unwrapped and challenged by four women who will offer personal insights about what it is like to work in the opera industry in 2019. Opera Unwrapped: Women Centre Stage has been specially created to celebrate two years since the launch of Into Opera in Norfolk, and is a Hostry Festival Commission event.

Into Opera is a registered charity, starting a creative revolution in Norfolk to get more people ‘into’ opera.
