10-Year Anniversary Promo Film
We’ve created a special edition of our Festival Promo Film to mark our 10th Anniversary Year. This specially-extended promotional film profiles many of our festival sponsors, supporters, trusts, charities, philanthropic investors, Norfolk businesses, and volunteers, all of whom have helped us bring in the first 10 years of the Hostry Festival. It also features the rich programme of events for 2021.
Contributors filmed so far include Lord MELVIN BRAGG, OLIVIA-NEWTON JOHN, The Dean of Norwich Cathedral, and STEPHEN FRY.
The film will be released and screened at the Festival Launch Night on Monday 6th September, and then online in the 6-week build-up to the festival.
Celebrating 10 Years of the Festival

We’re so excited to share details of this year’s extra-special festival with you all: keep your eyes peeled on the site and our social media channels over the next few months for announcements!

2021 Central Production
This year’s Central Production is a Norfolk premiere of a rarely seen play, penned by one of the country’s favourite actors renaissance man Sir PETER USTINOV. This masterful and mischievous piece of writing is aptly entitled BEETHOVEN’S TENTH; the perfect fit for the festival’s special 10th Anniversary Year. The cast features familiar faces alongside actors never before seen at the festival.
As part of our policy of ever-increasing accessibility, we have opened up our casting process. We have launched a casting call for a young male actor of Afro/Caribbean and caucasian mixed heritage to play the young lead role of Pascal. He will play the son of Jamaican-born actress/singer EMILY JUPP, who joins us for the first time this year.
We are also currently in negotiation with the Beethoven Museum in Bonn, Germany, to arrange a live streaming of the play from our website. Keep your eyes peeled on the site for all the latest news and announcements, including ticket releases.
Central Production Commission 2021: TOTAL ENSEMBLE THEATRE COMPANY
We are proud to commission Hostry Festival Signature Project Total Ensemble Theatre Company to perform a new piece of movement theatre, beautifully set to Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, to open each night of the Hostry Festival’s 10th Anniversary Central Production.
Artistic Director REBECCA CHAPMAN is currently in pre-production, working online with disabled and non-disabled young people from across the county. Safely distanced workshops will begin in spring 2021.
Total Ensemble Theatre Company’s specially-devised piece promises to be uplifting; full of vitality and originality. Some of the company’s young performers will also hold supporting roles in the Central Production. This combination of cross-over casting and inclusion sets the tone for the Hostry Festival’s 10th Anniversary Year.
Festival Commission 2021: RACHAEL LONG
The festival has commissioned leading Norfolk sculptor RACHAEL LONG to create an original piece of art for the Central Production 2021 set design, inspired by the story of BEETHOVEN’S TENTH by Sir PETER USTINOV.
Rachael has collaborated with us over a fascinating 9-month period to create a piece of work set to generate interest similar to her Lifeboat Horse at Wells Next-The-Sea, created in 2018.
Read the full story below, as featured in Norfolk Magazine’s February edition.
An exhibition of Rachael’s fascinating work relating to this commission will take place during the festival, with her 6ft-tall sculpture entitled “Is Anybody There?” on show to all those attending our 6-night Central Production.
Rachael will kindly be donating a percentage of sales to the festival.
Festival Commission 2021: PAINT OUT
We commission a different artist to create the cover cover image for our festival brochure each year. This year, PAINT OUT founder JAMES COLMAN has created the cover page for us.
PAINT OUT is a Signature Project of the festival, and we couldn’t be happier to celebrate the partnership on the cover of our special 10th Anniversary brochure.
The original artwork will be on sale as part of our online auction, with 50% of the sale going towards the festival (look out for details on this from 20th July).
